Cụm đi kèm: a detailed blueprint, the blueprint for something.
Ví dụ: The engineers are reviewing the blueprints for the new bridge.
Cụm đi kèm: lay the foundation, a solid/strong foundation.
Ví dụ: Before constructing the walls, workers must lay a solid concrete foundation. (Trước khi xây tường, công nhân phải đặt một nền móng bê tông vững chắc.)
Cụm đi kèm: the building's structure, a steel/concrete structure.
Ví dụ: The earthquake damaged the building's internal structure, making it unsafe.
Cụm đi kèm: a glass/stone facade, the building's main facade.
Ví dụ: The historic building is known for its ornate 19th-century facade.
Ví dụ: The architect focused on the building's aesthetic appeal, using clean lines and natural materials.
Cụm đi kèm: improve/enhance functionality, focus on functionality.
Ví dụ: For a modern office, functionality is just as important as aesthetics.
Ví dụ: The design incorporates solar panels and a rainwater harvesting system to improve the building's sustainability.
Cụm đi kèm: a sense of proportion, in proportion to something.
Ví dụ: Classical architecture places great emphasis on symmetry and proportion.
Cụm đi kèm: an open/flexible layout, the layout of the apartment.
Ví dụ: The open layout of the ground floor creates a sense of spaciousness.
Ví dụ: The architect's clever spatial arrangement makes the small apartment feel much larger.
- 1Bạn đọc một đoạn văn trong bài thi TOEFL Reading: "The modernist movement in architecture, which emerged in the early 20th century, represented a significant departure from the ornate styles of the past. Architects of this era prioritized **functionality** over decoration. The core philosophy was that a building's design should be dictated by its purpose. Consequently, they stripped away non-essential details from the **facade** and focused on clean lines and open interior **layouts**. The underlying **structure**, often made of new materials like steel and reinforced concrete, was sometimes intentionally exposed to express a sense of honesty and transparency in the design."
- 2**Câu hỏi:** According to the passage, what was a key principle of the modernist movement in architecture? (A) It emphasized creating elaborate and decorative facades. (B) It believed that a building's purpose should determine its design. (C) It relied exclusively on traditional materials for the building's structure. (D) It prioritized complex layouts with many small, separate rooms. **Phân tích:** * **Loại (A):** Đoạn văn nói rằng các kiến trúc sư "stripped away non-essential details from the facade" (loại bỏ các chi tiết không cần thiết khỏi mặt tiền). Điều này trái ngược với "elaborate and decorative facades". Vậy (A) sai. * **Loại (C):** Đoạn văn đề cập đến việc sử dụng "new materials like steel and reinforced concrete" (vật liệu mới như thép và bê tông cốt thép). Điều này mâu thuẫn với "traditional materials". Vậy (C) sai. * **Loại (D):** Đoạn văn nhắc đến "open interior layouts" (bố cục nội thất mở), trái ngược với "complex layouts with many small, separate rooms". Vậy (D) sai. * **Chọn (B):** Đoạn văn nêu rõ: "The core philosophy was that a building's design should be dictated by its purpose" (Triết lý cốt lõi là thiết kế của một tòa nhà nên được quyết định bởi mục đích của nó).

- 1The plan for the house is very clever because it makes the small rooms feel bigger. It's also designed to be good for the environment.
- 2**Câu viết lại:** The house's innovative **layout**, which features a clever **spatial arrangement**, creates an illusion of spaciousness. Moreover, the design prioritizes environmental **sustainability**. **Vì sao tốt hơn?** * `innovative layout` thay thế cho "The plan for the house is very clever", thể hiện sự đánh giá một cách học thuật hơn. * `clever spatial arrangement` giải thích rõ hơn cách bố cục đó đạt được hiệu quả, thay cho cách nói đơn giản "it makes the small rooms feel bigger". * `prioritizes environmental sustainability` là một cụm từ chuẩn xác và trang trọng hơn nhiều so với "it's also designed to be good for the environment".
